Split Crest

Curso SPlit Crest - AUMENTO LATERAL DO REBORDO ALVEOLAR

The loss of a tooth leads to dimensional changes in the alveolar ridge, predominantly affecting the buccal bone plate. This horizontal resorption may compromise or hinder proper prosthetic rehabilitation with dental implants, often making regenerative procedures for alveolar ridge augmentation necessary.

Currently, several surgical approaches are available for the lateral augmentation of the residual alveolar ridge, including guided bone regeneration (GBR) with biomaterials, the tenting technique, the use of titanium meshes, autologous block bone grafts, as well as more conservative techniques such as the split crest or modifications of the Khoury technique. Each of these options presents specific indications, inherent limitations, varying levels of surgical complexity, predictability of outcomes, and postoperative morbidity.

The success of lateral alveolar ridge augmentation fundamentally depends on an accurate assessment of the type, extent, and location of the bone defect, enabling the selection of the regenerative technique with the greatest predictability of success and, whenever possible, the simplest to perform.

This course will place special emphasis on the diagnosis and surgical planning of horizontal alveolar ridge defects, as well as the careful selection of the most appropriate technique for each clinical situation. Both theoretical and practical aspects of various lateral augmentation techniques will be covered, including conventional GBR, tenting, titanium meshes, modifications of the Khoury technique, and horizontal bone distraction (split crest).

The course will include a theoretical component based on current scientific evidence, as well as the observation of surgeries using different techniques and a practical component on anatomical models, allowing participants to perform, understand, and consolidate the fundamental surgical principles of the various lateral alveolar ridge augmentation approaches.
