WEBINAR: The Dentist's Approach to Snoring and OSAS

DURATION: 40 min

SPEAKERS:  Dr. Júlio Fonseca & Dr.ª Gabriela Videira

Webinar recorded during the lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic for OrisEducare and BTI Academy.

In recent years, sleep disorders in general, and obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome (OSAS) in particular, have become increasingly important. OSAS is a public health problem that affects men, women and children. It causes an increase in cardiovascular risk, metabolic diseases, hypertension, traffic accidents and accidents at work. Established treatments for this disease can be more or less invasive. There are several options with good results, and these treatments should be known to health professionals who intend to work in the field of sleep. It is thought that only 10% of people with the condition are correctly diagnosed and treated.

This webinar aims to train dentists so that they can improve their assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic skills in obstructive sleep pathology in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to the patient

WEBINAR: TMD and adverse effects of mandibular advancement devices for snoring and OSAS

DURATION: 40 min

SPEAKERS: Dr. Júlio Fonseca & Dr.ª Gabriela Videira

Webinar recorded during the lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic for OrisEducare and BTI Academy.

Mandibular advancement devices used by dentists to treat snoring and OSAS have been widely associated with some adverse effects (often with little scientific evidence or methodological clarity) on the orofacial muscles and the temporomandibular joint.

If we look at the published RCTs, this association may not be so clear. In any case, proper knowledge of Temporomandibular Dysfunctions and a correct prior assessment of the patient before the introduction of MAD may help to minimize these adverse effects.

This presentation will cover:

  • Summary of the classification of the main TMDs
  • Previous Patient Evaluation
  • Main adverse effects of MADs
  • Addressing TMD and the adverse effects of MADs

Note: Access to the webinar will be via the link that will be sent to registrants at the time of the event via e-mail.

WEBINAR: SKELETAL ANCHORAGE IN TODAY'S ORTHODONTICS (made on 5/11/2020)

DURATION: 1h30

SPEAKERS: Prof. Dr. Júlio de Araújo Gurgel and Dr. Alexandra Vinagre (host and moderator)

Temporary skeletal anchorage devices (TSADs) are increasingly being used to correct different malocclusions depending on the severity of each case.

Better technical and scientific understanding of ATDs has led to the emergence of new clinical approaches. The continuous improvement of these devices makes it possible to obtain more predictable and stable results. The main clinical applications of DTAs will be presented by explaining basic concepts and clinical cases.

This webinar will cover the clinical use of DTAs in orthodontics today, from the simplest to the most comprehensive.

Note: Access to the webinar will be via the Zoom platform, through the link that will be sent to registrants via e-mail the day before the event.

At the end of the webinar, there will be space to ask questions and clarify doubts.
